By the early Spring of 2006 Detectives from Area 5 of the Chicago Police Department realized they were facing a big problem; evidence, in the form of digital and analog video sources that captured scenes of crimes were being presented to the Police who lacked the resources to use or develop the evidence. That’s when Detective Jim Adams (pictured above right) contacted Paul Pustelnik (pictured second from the left) of Procom.
Procom developed a PC system that served to enhance recovered videos which assisted greatly in the identification of offenders. In the course of a year, this 016th District system was employed by Tactical Lieutenant Joe Schober (pictured second from right) to review approximately 200 video sources. From these reviews, captured stills representing offenders ‘caught in the act’ of committing crimes were distributed to field personnel in a timely manner. This process contributed to the arrests of over a hundred offenders who otherwise may have gone unidentifeid. The success of this proto-type system prompted the Chicago Police Department to install similar systems in the five Detective Areas. Paul was recognized of his contribution during an appreciation ceremony conducted by the 016th CAPS District Advisory Committee. Paul has also been nominated for a Police Citizenship Award which is presented to business owners by the Chicago Police for their contribution to enhancing the Department’s mission.
