Cash Register Surveillance Systems - Compatible with all Cash Register Systems Used in hundreds of Convenience Stores, Car Washes, Fast Food Chains, Retail Stores, Liquor Stores, etc. The Multiple Register Text Inserter is designed to communicate with up to 12 register interfaces. It superimposes transaction information onto corresponding video of the cashier on a one register per channel basis. The text inserter is installed between the cameras and the video processor or connected to network switch, may be used with analog or digital recorders, multiplexers, quads, etc. The composite image with the text overlay can be viewed live or reviewed later from a video recorder. Questionable transactions such as VOID and NO SALE can be reviewed easily by using the flashing text alarm features.
Cash Register Data Capture
No Sales are the most common exception. Some legitimate uses are making change or correcting change mistakes. Still, the No Sale should always be treated as an exceptional transaction. Towards the end of a shift, whether the clerk was performing short rings (ringing up an item for an amount much lower than its actual value), pilfering, or substitute scanning (scanning a tag of lower value than the actual item), they will have to remove the accumulated money before their shift ends. Therefore it is especially important to check for all No Sale transactions within the last hour of a shift.
Voids are used after the customer has left and the same transaction has been voided. The money is still in the register and will have to be removed then or towards the end of the shift.
Returns/Refunds are usually questionable when no exchange is being made and cash is paid out. Items are pulled from inventory and fictitious refunds are given to friends, relatives or the clerks themselves.
Cancels: this is where a transaction is partially rung up. The clerk asks the customer for the money and if the customer does not ask for a receipt and leaves, then the clerk cancels the sale and pockets the money.
Cash Register Data Capture
Purchases or Payouts: most small businesses pay for miscellaneous expenses from their cash register drawer, but this practice lends itself to abuse by a dishonest clerk. The clerk rings a payout and, conspiring with the vendor, overpays the vendor and later collects, or simply makes the payout for more and keeps the difference. Dishonest employees can generate fake or alter receipts and pocket the money. All Payouts from a register should be scrutinized carefully.
One method of id
entifying these types of theft and fraud is called POS Text Insertion and is used in conjunction with a video surveillance system. This method involves writing the transaction data from the cash register/POS system to the video produced by the security camera watching that POS device.
POS Text Inserters are a hardware/software solution. A cable feed from the POS printer is connected to a port on the text insertion box and a coaxial input from the relevant security camera is also connected into the Text Inserter box. The text from the transaction printer is written onto the video from the security camera by the text insertion box and the video plus text is connected by coax cable into a video input port of the DVR system. Playback of the recorded video from that camera will show both the video and the associated transaction data.
Software is supplied with the text insertion equipment, so that a searchable database of transactions is created. This software will allow "exceptions" (to normal transactions) to be defined. "Exceptions" are any suspicious transaction and would normally include the type of transactions outlined above plus transactions of a dollar value below the normal limits for that business. By searching the transaction database for "exceptions" each suspicious transaction can then be examined, along with the accompanying video.
For retail stores, restaurants and bars, the addition of a POS Text Insertion System to a Digital Video Surveillance System will provide detection and prevention of most types of cash register theft and fraud. In many instances, the POS Text Insertion equipment will pay for itself in just a couple of months of use
Our system works with hundreds of deferent type of cash registers/ software packages including NCR ACS.
