Thermal surveillance technology has been around for decades, but only recently has it achieved the detail to automatically detect faces and distinguish them from other objects. The example in the video below shows how this new thermal camera can draw a box around multiple faces at a time, enabling analysis of the temperature of each individual in view. When paired with a reference box (mounted on the left wall in the video), a box which maintains the optimal temperature of the human body, the smart analytics in the camera can compare the temperature read off a person’s face with the reference box in-frame. If a person with a fever enters the frame, the camera detects the elevated temperature compared to the reference box with accuracy down to half a degree, then triggers an audible alarm to alert security personnel. A person with a fever may not even realize they are ill, but now you can intercept them and send them home to recover, before they spread the virus to other members of your staff and their families.
